The Government of Bangladesh (GoB) has decided to improve road connectivity by constructing Mahadev, Ganeshwari, and Someshwari Bridge-3 and Nitai Bridge on missing links of the Sunamganj-Netrokona-Mymensingh-Sherpur-Jamalpur (Dhanua Kamalpur) (Z-2834) road, and Someshwari Bridge-2 adjacent to the old, narrow, damaged Someshwari Bridge on the Shyamganj-Jaria-Birisiri-Durgapur (Z-3704) road, implemented jointly with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). The Z-2834 road, a 172.00 km strategic border route, is vital for cross-district mobility and trade. While a 128 km section between Mahishkhola (Netrokona) and Dhanua Kamalpur (Jamalpur) is complete, four links remain disconnected at the 9th, 21st, 35th, and 47th km due to river crossings (Mahadev, Ganeshwari, Someshwari, Nitai), limiting transport and economic integration.
