Who's asking: public demand by topic
Browse the public Who's asking pages to see how many people ask for a service each week, and search this week's posts for what you sell.
Who's asking is a free, public part of ScoutTide. It shows public posts where somebody asks for a recommendation, a quote or someone to hire, grouped by topic. Use it to see real demand for what you sell before you sign up, or to share with your team.
What the pages show
ScoutTide searches public posts on Reddit, Hacker News, Stack Exchange and Bluesky every day. It keeps the posts from the last two weeks that ask for something, and updates the counts every hour.
- The main page, Who's asking, lists every topic with how many people asked this week, and a total across all topics.
- Each topic page is titled "People asking for" the service, and shows how many asked this week on each platform, followed by the newest posts.
- Other topics at the foot of a topic page links to related topics.
Browse a topic
- Go to Who's asking.
- Select a topic.
- Read Asking this week, by platform for the count on each site.
- Scroll to the list of newest posts.
- Select Open the original post to read it on the site where it was written.
If a topic has had no request in the last two weeks, the page says so. New posts are read every day.
Why some posts are hidden
What you can see depends on the platform and whether you are signed in:
- Hacker News and Stack Exchange posts are published under CC BY-SA 4.0. They are shown in full, with their author.
- Reddit and Bluesky posts are shown to signed in accounts only, as a title and a link to the original post.
If you are not signed in, those rows read Create a free account to see who's asking. See Sign up.
Search the posts for what you sell
The Social leads page has a free search box over the same public posts. No sign-up is needed.
- Go to Social leads, or select Search these posts on any topic page.
- Under What do you sell?, type a short description, for example web design for restaurants.
- Select Search.
The results list public posts from the last two weeks that ask for what you typed. If nothing comes back, try fewer or broader words.
Too many searches in a short time from one address are paused for a few minutes. Wait, then try again.
Get posts like these every morning
The public pages show a sample. Inside ScoutTide you get much more:
- ScoutTide searches these platforms, plus LinkedIn and Upwork, every day.
- It matches each post to your own products, not to a general topic.
- The posts that fit arrive in one ranked list each morning, in the app and by email.
To start, select Find customers on any Who's asking page and create an account. If you are already signed in, the button reads Set it up and takes you straight to setup.
