Your own feeds
Add a social feed
Follow a subreddit, forum, Stack Exchange site, web search or RSS feed, and posts that match your keywords join your Social leads.
Social feeds follow communities where buyers talk about what they need. Their posts join your Social leads, and the AI scores each one against your products. ScoutTide already watches its own community feeds for you. Add your own to reach the places your buyers use.
Before you start
- Only a manager can add feeds. On the Individual plan, that is you.
- Your plan sets how many feeds you can add. See Plans and the free trial.
Adding a procurement portal's notices instead? Use Tender feeds.
Kinds of feed
In Kind, you can choose:
- Reddit: a subreddit or a search
- Web search: reaches Upwork, LinkedIn and X, when web search is switched on for your workspace
- Stack Exchange: people asking what to buy
- Hacker News: searches comments as well as posts
- Discourse forum: Mattermost and many vendor communities
- Bluesky: searches public posts
- RSS or Atom feed: paste the URL
Upwork, LinkedIn and X have no feed and forbid scraping, so ScoutTide reaches them by searching the web for their public posts. No login or credentials are needed.
Steps
- Open the menu under your initials and choose Organisation.
- In the settings rail, under Feeds, choose Social feeds.
- Under Add a social feed, you can press a button next to Start from, such as Reddit threads, Upwork jobs or LinkedIn posts. These are built from your own products. They fill the form only, so you can check the keywords before anything is added.
- In What to call it, type a name you will recognise.
- Choose the Kind.
- In Subreddit, search words, or feed URL, type what to follow. The examples below show the format for each kind.
- In Keywords: an item is kept only if it contains one of these, type words separated by commas. This is what keeps a feed useful rather than noisy.
- Optionally, in Ignore anything containing (optional), type words that rule a post out, such as hiring or salary.
- Press Add feed.
What to type for each kind
- Reddit: a subreddit name, such as govtech, or words to search for. One feed can follow several subreddits: join their names with a plus, such as govtech+procurement+sysadmin.
- Web search: what to search the web for, such as site:upwork.com "document management".
- Stack Exchange: site:query, such as softwarerecs:document management.
- Hacker News and Bluesky: phrases separated by OR, such as "document management" OR edrms.
- Discourse forum: host:query, such as forum.mattermost.com:document management.
- RSS or Atom: the feed's URL, starting with http:// or https://.
Reddit limits how often it can be read, so one combined feed is more reliable than several separate ones.
What happens next
Each feed is checked as you add it. You see that it was added and whether it works, with how many items it found and how many match your keywords. If the site is busy or slow, the check finishes in the background and the result shows in a few minutes.
If ScoutTide already reads that feed, or you already follow it, it tells you instead of adding it twice.
Matching posts join your Social leads, where the AI scores each one and gives its reason.
Check, switch off or remove a feed
Under Last feed added, you see your newest feed and whether it is working.
- Press Check now to read it again and see the result.
- Press Turn off to stop reading it. Its posts leave Social leads, except the ones your team is working on.
- Press Remove to delete it and everything it brought in, including any work recorded on those posts.
Remove cannot be undone. If you only want a feed to stop, press Turn off.
Feeds are read automatically through the day. Press Fetch now to read all of them straight away. If your plan has lapsed, your feeds are paused until you subscribe.
